My journey to Europe began on February 5, when I flew from Los Angeles International Airport to London Heathrow. So began a whale of a tale for my sister Jessica and I. Over the course of 15 days, we visited London, England; Dublin, Ireland; Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Munich, Germany; and at last reached Marburg, Germany, where I’ll be studying for the next four months.

This past weekend was the first time I have traveled solo to another country. The first time I took in the culture of a new city by myself. The first time during my study abroad experience being truly alone.
Two weeks ago, my brother and friend flew close to 6,000 miles across the world to visit me in Maastricht and I’ve been excited for them to come since the beginning of my time here. However, during my first few months in Maastricht I felt as though I would never be able to remember how to get around and wouldn’t be able to be a show my family around because of how bad I am with directions.

San Diego has many qualities for which it is renowned globally. The weather is perfect year round, though the resulting drought is less than enjoyable. Our beaches are wide and welcoming. The range of indoor and outdoor activities is enticing for all age groups. The laid-back attitude of the natives makes visitors feel at home.
After a grueling 15 hours of flights as well as a four-hour layover, nothing sounds more appealing than settling in for a long night of sleep at your accommodations. While studying abroad, the five star hotel experience is not exactly guaranteed; however, you’ll take next to anything at that point. This is exactly how my classmates and I felt as we slumped off the bus outside of our hostel when we arrived in Dublin.
